Wing foil

Wing foil in Olbia: the guide for starting from zero

Updated on
Rider flying on a foil with a wing above the water at Le Saline, Olbia

Wing foil combines an inflatable wing in your hands with a board and underwater foil. When the foil lifts, the board rises and the ride becomes quiet, smooth and surprisingly light.

Why people like it

The equipment is compact, there are no kite lines and the wing can be released when you need to depower. The first handling steps are often intuitive, especially for people with SUP, windsurf or board-sport experience. The foil adds challenge later, but the progression can be very rewarding.

How you learn

We start on land with wing handling: power, neutral position, hand changes and basic safety. Then you move to a large stable board without focusing on flight yet. Once balance and direction are consistent, we introduce pumping, lift-off and longer glides on the foil.

At S-LOOP the lesson can include boat support, radio coaching and equipment suited to your level. Stable boards and progressive foils make the first sessions calmer and more productive.

Why Le Saline works

The spot offers sandy access, open water and regular side-on thermal wind. That gives enough room to drift, reset and try again without fighting obstacles. You can read the full spot context in the Le Saline guide.

If you are unsure whether to choose kite or wing, compare both in kitesurf or wing foil. To start, see our wing foil lessons in Olbia or contact us.
